Sketching Guidelines
- 1. Closed Lines: Make sure your character or object has a solid outline. Gaps in the outline can confuse the depth estimation.
- 2. Shading Helps: Adding basic shading (values) helps immenseley. If you shade the "round" parts of a sphere, the AI knows it curved.
- 3. 3/4 Perspective: Draw in perspective. A flat stick figure will become a flat 3D stick figure. A 3D box drawing will become a cube.
Workflow for Creatives
- Sketch: Draw your character or prop on paper or tablet.
- Convert: Upload the image to imgto3d.io and download the OBJ.
- Refine: Import the rough AI model into ZBrush or Blender. Use it as a size reference or a base for sculpting high-frequency details.

Can it convert technical drawings/blueprints?
It works best with organic shapes and perspective drawings. Flat orthographic blueprints might be interpreted as a flat relief map rather than a full 3D object.
Does it colorize my black & white sketch?
Currently, the AI projects pixels from your image onto the mesh. If you upload a B&W sketch, the model will be B&W. You can paint over it in software like Substance Painter.
Does it support kids' drawings?
Yes! It's a fun way to bring children's imagination to life. Monster drawings turn into surprising 3D creatures.
